On October 4th, 2023, a FEMA alert will go off on all devices. All cell phones, computers, TVs, and watches are said to go off on this day. This is for testing of alertion in all of the U.S. in case of a national emergency occurrence. Students at Champe feel uniquely about this alert and the reason for it.
“I don’t mind the alert, it’s mainly for our future safety and although it might be annoying i’m excited to see how loud it really is,” sophomore Ayesha Fahed said. “Also we can even take the opportunity to recharge or relax if it isn’t too loud.”
On the other hand, some students are frightened. “I think social media is having a bad influence on it, so I don’t think it’s as bad as it’s made out to be, but I’m kinda scared of it,” sophomore Tran Vo said. “I heard that it is gonna last 30 minutes and is going to be very loud, I’m also kind of sensitive to loud noise so I’m not sure how I’m going to feel once it happens.”
The government has required that all schools be active on this day and advises that everyone should keep their cell phone on to make sure the test is working and goes through on each device. The students at Champe do not know what to expect, but they are prepared for the alert to happen.
