Food trucks, music, and a crowd of parents and students were present at John Champe High School last Thursday for Champe’s Back to School Bash. Everyone was looking forward to an exhilarating evening with friends and family. The block party was organized by the John Champe events coordinator, Shalonda Davis, for parents and students to get together and meet peers with similar interests after the Open House. On top of that, there was also live music by the talented DJ Fame which created a fun and open atmosphere.
“I think it will give students and parents a sense of community as well as give the parents an opportunity to see the school and mingle amongst fellow parents and other parents who might have students in similar sports or classes,” administrative assistant Laurel Janardhan said. “Ms. Davis put together an excellent group of food trucks with a lot of variety, which I’m really happy about because we have a lot of people who have special dietary needs and I can see that she kept that in mind when choosing the food trucks.”
Besides giving the community a chance to get together, the block party also allowed clubs to present information about themselves to parents and recruit new members. Around the main doors, many clubs set up tri-folds to spread the word about their mission. Events like this that allow parents and students to become closer are important because, as Janardhan said, “The Champe community can do wonderful things if it comes together.”
