As John Champe homecoming starts to approach, the SCA is working eagerly to plan and execute the perfect homecoming spirit week and dance. The Student Council Association is in charge of figuring out spirit days, planning events, and organizing pep rallies. The homecoming spirit themes consist of Tacky Tourist Day, USA Out, Fashion Disaster Day, Class Subtheme Day, and Class Color Out.
“We create different engaging themes and events that we know our school would enjoy as well as create good competition between the classes,” SCA student Gabby Monahan said. “Spirit weeks are so beneficial for homecoming because they create a cooperative atmosphere that gets people excited for the dance.” All together, the main goal of SCA is to give students some fun and engaging competition within school rather than just academics.
“Although lots of time and effort go into planning and creating these events, it’s worth it because it’s lots of fun dressing up for our class and going to every event,” Monahan said. “We also like to combine spirit days with other schools when possible to encourage some friendly competition.” Not only do spirit weeks encourage competition, it creates fun memories and opportunities to support the school.
