Fitness testing is now being administered to all students that take any of the Health and P.E courses given by John Champe High School. Fitness testing includes many miniature placement tests to measure the students’ level of fitness in different areas, grading solely on effort. Some of these tests include running, maintaining a plank, and the amount of push-ups/sit-ups a student can complete. Fitness testing is administered at least twice a year, usually starting a few classes after students return to school, and then occurring in the spring as well. While the teachers of John Champe High School believe fitness testing to be helpful, the students seem to disagree.
“Fitness testing is important to see where you are at, as a baseline, to see what you’re cable of healthwise,” Health & P.E. 9 teacher Noah Madgwick said. “I think the most rewarding thing of it for students, is coming in at the end of the year to see how much you, as a student, have improved.”
“I don’t think fitness testing helps me, because we don’t use it for anything,” freshman Shravya Nedunuri said. “It’s all just really useless.”
