The Hidden Opponent Club is a relatively new club to Champe, starting in January 2023. The mission of the club is to help spread awareness on mental health specifically for athletes, with the motto “Break the stigma.” THO wants to normalize athletes struggling with mental health and educate those who don’t know the stressors in athletes’ lives.
“Me and Vic decided to start THO because we both grew up in competitive sports, so we saw firsthand the stigma around mental health in athletes.” Vice President Devon Yi said. “With these sports starting younger and younger, we wanted to try and attack the stigma earlier.”
The Champe chapter president is Victoria Katilius and the vice president is Devon Yi. Both Victoria and Devon are members of the Varsity Champe Softball team.
“I think our goal for this year is to grow,” Yi said, “because we just started last year, so we’re still very new.”
She discusses the importance of getting the club involved in every sport at Champe. By doing so, they hope that that initial step can propel the club to take off and spread further awareness.
