At John Champe High School, the events of September 11th hold a unique place in the hearts and minds of its students. While all of them were born after that pivotal day in history, the impact of 9/11 is still a part of their lives. This year, on the 22nd anniversary of the attacks, John Champe students found new ways to remember and reflect on the significance of 9/11, whether it be through sharing family stories or visiting the memorial.
“Remembering the events of 9/11 is an important tradition in my family as we have come close to losing people that pivotal day, and we want to commemorate the fallen,” senior Ritkia Ananthoj said. “We would sometimes make poems, and this year, we visited the memorial in New York City the weekend before.”
For John Champe students, 9/11 serves as a reminder of the importance of unity, resilience, and hope in the face of adversity. As they commemorate this solemn anniversary, they do so with a sense of responsibility to honor the past and to carry forward the lessons of 9/11, ensuring that the memory of that day remains alive and relevant for generations to come.
