Michelle Yeoh Becomes First Asian to Win Best Actress at the 2023 Oscars
Michelle Yeoh has officially made history as the first Asian to win the Best Actress award at the 2023 Oscars Award Ceremony. She was nominated for her performance in Everything Everywhere All At Once along with Cate Blanchett, Ana de Armas, Andrea Riseborough, and Michelle Williams.

Many people are elated for Yeoh’s win, but some people feel otherwise, “[I don’t feel like Michelle Yeoh deserved to win,] but she was incredible in Everything, Everywhere, All At Once,” English teacher Peter Kim said. “I thought Cate Blanchett [deserved to win because] she was absolutely amazing in Tar. How Blanchett made a fictional character feel like one who really lived was so good.”
Again, there are a lot of people who feel as though Yeoh’s win was incredibly deserved. “I do feel like Michelle Yeoh deserved the award, from Crazy Rich Asians to Everything, Everywhere, All At Once, she has truly worked wonders in the movie industry…” sophomore Jaime Kwon said. “I felt very inspired when Michelle Yeoh won the oscar… It’s not everyday you see someone that looks like you and gets these truly amazing awards.”
“I’m happy about Michelle Yeoh’s win,” Kim said. “[I do not feel represented because] I didn’t do anything to help her win. I know Yeoh is very big into representation, but SHE was the one who acted, SHE was the one who made audiences cry and laugh, and SHE was the one who earned her Oscar.”
The Oscars included many incredible movie nominations and wins this year, and Everything, Everywhere, All At Once won a total of six oscars! How do you feel about Yeoh’s win?
