One Year Anniversary Of Capital Riots
After nearly a year since civil unrest broke out at the Capital, the nation reflects on one of the most careless acts in American history.
On January 6, 2021, a riot of Trump supporters stormed the nation’s capital in Washington D.C. From smoke bombs, to storming through barricades of police officers, the rioters had one goal in mind: prevent the passing of power to current President Joe Biden. They sought to overturn Trump’s defeat by disrupting the joint session of Congress, in which, counted the number of electoral votes.
Today, President Biden and Vice President Harris shared remarks in light of this anniversary. During this, Biden called out Trump for his attempt to overturn American democracy. A vigil, along with a series of events, was planned to take place at the capital.
For more information on the events that will take place to honor this anniversary, CNN will host a live conversation at 8 pm ET.
